Kitchen in the Basement: Lessons from Italian Canadians
From July 2014 to February 2015, Sarah Febbraro, a second-generation Italian herself who grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, personally learned how to make sausages, roasted red peppers, pasta, crostoli, giardinara, and pitticille amongst other traditional Calabrese recipes from first-generation Italian immigrants living in Sault Ste. Marie.
She also organized public cooking workshops for the local Sault Ste. Marie community. The results of this year long project were exhibited as a solo exhibition at Art Gallery of Algoma in Sault Ste. Marie from July-October, 2015
Kitchen in the Basement: Lessons from Italian Canadians was created in collaboration with artist Sarah Febbraro, members of Sault Ste. Marie’s Italian Canadian community, The Art Gallery of Algoma and The Marconi Club.
This project was funded by the Ontario Arts Council.
