Call and Response (1 min excerpt)
single-channel video

This is a video work that invited 5 non professional dancers to choreograph their own dance routine for the camera with the intention of having professional dancers re-interpret, perform and record their version of the same choreography. Edited as a split screen video, the viewer is able to watch two different versions of the same choreography, performed at the same time. Viewing different bodies, trained and untrained, performing the same movement breaks down issues of power and ownership and connects this project to notions of circulation and to the call and response nature of online video sharing networks like YouTube.
